Summary:
As a Merchandise Lead for Kawahara Nurseries, Inc. (KNI), you and your merchandising team will execute the merchandising strategy and day-to-day needs for eight (8) retail store locations on the Peninsula and South Bay that we supply plants to. This is a full-time year round position and depending on the time of year (our business is seasonal and peaks in Spring), this hybrid player-coach position motivates a team of three (3) to five (5) full-time and part-time teammates, while also setting the example as a player by merchandising the highest volume stores.
The goals for this position are: 1) to drive retail sales through effective merchandising while minimizing the amount of product that does not sell and 2) to mange your merchandising team's efficiency and labor cost. You will be rewarded based on these goals and your ability to make the people around you better.
This position requires extensive travel in your own vehicle to several retail store locations per day (mileage is reimbursed between the first store and the last store visited in a work day). Stores are located in San Leandro, Santa Clara, Union City, Milpitas, Fremont, Newark, Pleasanton, Hayward, San Jose and Livermore areas.
Responsibilities:
- Work with HR team to hire, train and develop a team of full-time and part-time teammates
- Ensure the safety and security of all teammates, retail employees and customers
- Schedule and track your teams hours, mileage and overall costs
- Effectively manage and schedule your time between coaching teammates and merchandising high volume stores
- Consistently hold yourself and team accountable for merchandising quality and efficiency using training sessions, announced/unannounced visits, cross-training, and other tactics
- Execute all KNI and retail merchandising strategies at store level
- Maintain stores to store-specific plan-o-grams, signage standards, and pricing needs
- Efficiently stock, clean, condense, reposition, and water new and existing product
- Remove unsellable product, arrange delivery racks for pickup and sweep away debris
- Constantly communicate store level product data to assist in improving orders and sell-through
- Build relationships with store level personnel to assist in addressing sales and merchandising needs
- Gather and communicate critical retail, competitor, and end-customer photos and feedback
- Identify new merchandising ideas to improve sell-through and KNI distribution efficiency
Requirements:
- Flexible availability: shifts can start as early as 4:00am on both weekdays and weekends.
- Candidates must be able to travel between stores during shifts in their own vehicle. A clean driving record is a must (mileage is reimbursed).
- Ability to push and pull heavy delivery racks
- Ability to lift 40 lbs of product and frequent bending to stock retail benches
