Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Freight Agent to join our team. As a Freight Agent, you will be responsible for obtaining your customer base, quoting, coordinating, and overseeing the transportation of goods for clients. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient movement of freight while maintaining strong relationships with carriers and clients.
Duties:
-Obtain and maintain a book of business. Methods may include cold calling, in person meetings, and/or social media.
- Utilize inside sales techniques to secure new business opportunities and expand our client base.
-Quote freight based on the lane and commodities requested by the customer.
-Coordinate the dispatching of shipments, ensuring timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Engage in transportation planning to streamline operations and enhance overall efficiency.
- Perform data entry tasks accurately to update shipment details and maintain records.
- Negotiate freight prices with carriers to secure cost-effective shipping solutions.
- Implement transportation management strategies to improve service quality and reduce lead times.
- Generate leads through proactive outreach efforts to drive business growth.
Requirements:
- Current book of business is required
- Proven experience in inside sales or a similar role within the transportation industry.
- Proficiency in dispatching shipments and managing logistics operations.
- Strong data entry skills with attention to detail.
- Knowledge of supply chain management processes.
- Understanding of freight pricing mechanisms and negotiation tactics.
- Ability to strategize transportation plans for optimal results.
- Demonstrated capability in lead generation within a competitive market.
