Circulating nurses are crucial to the surgical process. For example, circulating nurses must ensure all patient paperwork (consent forms, safety checklists, intra-operative documentation, etc.) is completed in a concise and timely manner. During the procedure, they are a patient advocate by assuring that all safety procedures and measures are being utilized. Circulating nurses also replenish surgical supplies as needed during the operation. After the procedure, they verify instrument count and complete charting and other related duties.
Being detail-oriented is also a needed skill for OR nurses. Small mistakes in the operating room can have a big impact on a patient’s condition. Nurses must also be able to multi-task. Personal Testaments:
"I came to work at BASC in PACU 3 years ago, and it renewed my love for nursing. I had worked in the ICU for years, but was emotionally drained, unmotivated from the inability to provide adequate care to my patients, and constantly dreaded going to work. At BASC, I found a team and administration that cared about my wellbeing. I discovered that I had the time, staffing, and resources to provide the very best care for my patients. The nightmares that I had of dealing with aggressive family members, forgetting to chart something because I was so busy, and general anxiety-inducing situations related to work completely stopped. Over my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to advance to a clinical educator/charge nurse role. I love that my bosses truly want what's best for their patients and staff, and who aren't afraid to come to the unit to help the nurses if things get too busy. We do not cut corners here. And if we find out that we are, it is corrected immediately. I truly feel that BASC does healthcare right--that is, the environment and administration set the staff up for success and desire to make a positive impact on Nashville and surrounding communities. I look forward to many more years with them."
--Tess, RN, MSN-Ed, Clinical Educator, 3.5 years at BASC
.
"Great place to work, great group of people to work with! I love it here because everybody works as a team. Patients are always very complimentary of the care they receive here at the facility. Management has been here a long time, and they are always ready to come out and help on the unit when it gets busy--even the administrator! Come join us; we'd love to have you!"
--Julie, RN, Pain Management/PACU, 3.5 years at BASC
