About LOV
Our mission is to instill purpose, passion, and perseverance in girls, ages 9 to 18, while preparing them for college, careers and to become change agents in their communities.
We match our participants with mentors and prepare them for leadership through our culturally relevant character building, career readiness and civic engagement curriculum. We provide project management, collaboration and communication training via our two to four-month project experiences to empower girls to lead in the modern workforce. After graduating from high school, with successful completion of our leadership program, participants are mentored and supported for six additional years as LOV 4 Life alumni.
Position Summary
This position supports Juniors and Seniors for post-secondary success. This position oversees an assigned group of volunteers and LOV girls to guide them to achieve academic, career, and life success. The College and Beyond Program Director will counsel, motivate, advise, tutor, assist with course selection and life choices, and assist with the enrollment process in order to help all students meet their educational goals. They will assist them with seeking life balance and provide them with life strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support volunteers and students from enrollment through graduation and beyond.
- Resolve problems by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implementing solutions; escalating unresolved problems. Follow up to ensure resolution of each issue.
- Counsel and advise students for post-secondary success
- Work with students to ensure a solid academic plan.
- Collaborate and escalate potential issues through the LOV process to provide students with necessary academic interventions for early alert, satisfactory academic progress plans, and other academic needs.
- Identify at-risk students and determine potential issues and connect them to tutoring, and/or correct any existing issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Key Data Needs:
- Number of participants that attend each session and what grade are they in
- Track for 12 grade – number of 12 grade students, their plan after high-school, FAFSA completion rate, number of colleges submitted OR application to armed forces submitted OR application to Trade schools submitted (this should be readily available for mentors to access so they can stay on top of it as well)
- Number of students working on scholarships / number of scholarships submitted
Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree preferred
- Have expert knowledge of mentoring program / college access policies and procedures
- Extremely strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Creativity and flexibility are essential in assuming significant responsibility
- Experience working in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities preferred
