PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE:
The Community Engagement Coordinator will play a pivotal role in fostering community engagement and building strong relationships with community board managers, staff, and NYC government and elected officials. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance community involvement, coordinate staff participation in community events, and contribute to overall community outreach efforts.
- Engagement Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive community engagement strategy in collaboration with the executive team that focuses on the growth of the agency.
- Community Outreach: Act as the point of contact for community board managers, NYC government agencies, elected officials, and community groups, organizations, and/or coalitions to establish and maintain positive relationships.
- Event Coordination: Coordinate staff participation in community events, meetings, and public forums, ensuring representation and active engagement from our organization.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams to align community engagement efforts with organizational goals and programs.
- Research and Analysis: Collaborate with the Development team to research various funding opportunities, grants, and resources available to support community engagement initiatives.
- Communication: Effectively communicate the organization's mission, programs, and impact to community stakeholders and elected officials.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare community engagement materials and maintain accurate records of all community engagement activities. Ensure timely and complete submission of all required documents and reports.
- Networking: Attend community meetings, conferences, and events to expand the organization's network to build advocacy, identify potential partners and funding opportunities.
Position Scope:
- The Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage the community, coordinate staff involvement in events, and foster relationships with NYC government agencies, elected officials, and community board managers.
Position Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in political science or social service-related field.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in community advocacy, engagement and relationship building. Helpful for candidate to know issues particularly to homelessness, food security, HIV/AIDS, substance use, immigration, access to benefits, LGBTQ issues, youth, violence prevention, equity and access/economic advancement, and structural racism.
- Familiarity with NYC government and elected officials.
- Experience in coordinating staff participation in community events and initiatives.
- Proven track record in grant writing and securing funding for community programs.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Ability to develop and execute community engagement strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Google Workspace.
- Highly organized with strong project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of nonprofit operations and objectives.
