McLean in Simsbury, is looking for a full-time Maintenance Assistant. The right candidate will support the Supervisor with maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of housing options on our campus including apartments, villas and cottages along with the grounds and equipment. This can include electrical and mechanical equipment, heating units, plumbing problems and painting. Monday-Friday with an on-call rotation. Always focused on customer service and respectful and courteous to our residents. Performing work that is accurate, quality on time and with first resolution.
Example of responsibilities:
- Responsible for repairs and maintenance as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance. This may include maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, heating units, plumbing problems, structural problems and painting.
- Carries out established preventative maintenance program for the cottages, villas and apartment building which may include asphalt repairs, filter replacement, a/c cleaning, and vent maintenance. Moves and installs appliances. Replaces batteries in smoke detectors yearly, or as needed.
- Performs concrete and asphalt repairs, snow and leaf removal and occasional grounds work such as mowing, weeding, chipping, pruning, watering.
- Performs cleaning, painting, carpet cleaning and overall preparation of cottages, villas and apartments to ready for new tenants.
- Performs fall leaf removal and spring sand cleanup.
- Performs salting when slippery conditions exist.
- Maintenance and light repair of power equipment and tools.
- Responds to village for ice and snow removal as required, day, evening or night, including weekends.
- Takes call on a revolving basis with other maintenance staff.
- Assist with custodial duties as needed, such as floors, rugs, chairs in apartments, keeping garbage areas free of trash and keeping carports, parking areas, and paths clean.
- Performs above tasks with a focus on customer service and courteous relationships with the Village residents.
- Other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and competency in plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical trades. Knowledge of grounds maintenance, including landscaping and arbor procedures. Knowledge and competency in safety procedures while performing all assignments, involving power equipment. Knowledge of light engine repair and operation. Skill in communicating effectively with residents, staff and contractors. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to handle stress well and work reasonably well with others.
