Scope of Position
The Financial Services Department provides financial information, support, and analysis to all operations within the Health System and the Medical Center. Financial information systems are maintained and supported to provide financial information and analysis of existing operations and proposed programs/projects from a financial perspective. The department provides support to the Business Units for monthly financial and statistical reporting, operating and capital budgeting, revenue management and charge entry support, reimbursement support and cost report filings, cost accounting and managed care system support, property management, accounts payable, and a wide variety of financial analysis. This position is committed to developing comprehensive and complex financial analysis of programs and projects, which incorporate knowledge, and understanding of healthcare and Medical Center operations. This includes knowledge and experience with financial reports, general ledger, budgeting, cost accounting, reimbursement/payment methods, clinical practices/information, etc. The position prepares analyses reports, and presentations for management, clinical staff, etc. which are summarized and demonstrates the key issues while being supported by available and developed data. The duties and responsibilities of this position are project oriented.
Position Summary
The Senior Financial Analyst is a primarily technical resource providing financial analysis services as noted in the Scope of Position Section. The Senior Financial Analyst will initiate and coordinate financial and operations data with management and staff throughout the Health System and Medical Center, including Financial Services, for the purpose of performing a variety of programmatic projects or analyses. Data analyzed may include revenues, expenses, costs, prices, investments, cash flow, profits, labor market trends, inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates. Responsible for developing models, and financial analysis plans as well as serves for assistance to business unit financial, clinical, and operational leadership on financial decision-making regarding cost centers, programs, service lines, business plans, payors, etc. This position works with a Finance Manager, Business Unit Team Leader, Staff, and CFO. This position reports to the Finance Manager for the James Cancer Hospital. The Senior Financial Analyst requires previous healthcare accounting and finance experience, previous healthcare analytical skills, highly developed computer skills, and the ability to create and present information to all levels of management.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 4-8 years of experience in Financial Accounting, Financial Analysis, Budgeting, and/or Reimbursement, preferably in a healthcare environment. Proficiency of Microsoft Office suite is required. Knowledge of at least one business system (Workday, EPIC (patient billing system), Strata, Tableau, Cost Accounting software, or oracle based databases) is preferred. Knowledge of Access, SQL or other database tools is highly desirable. A Senior Financial Analyst must be able to handle multiple projects and manage to achieve deadlines. Must have highly developed project management skills and be able to manage and deliver multiple projects. Must demonstrate ability to ensure quality in own work and develop strategies to assure accurate presentations. Must possess advanced healthcare analytical skills and be able to relate clinical, operational, reimbursement, and practice patterns to Health System operations. Actively initiates process improvement, reporting changes, and provides recommendations to CFO, CEO’s and others within organization. Uses advanced presentation techniques to communicate complex financial information to non-finance personnel. Additional knowledge of SQL, or other database tools a plus.
