PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of the Director of Nursing is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operations of the nursing service in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines, regulations and as may be directed by the Administrator in order to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
- Establish open lines of communication with physicians and consultants and consistently take follow-up action on recommendations.
- Communicate daily with nursing personnel, providing strong communication to achieve consistent departmental goals.
- Coordinate and communicate with Admissions and Business Development Director, Community Acute Health Systems to review and approve all admissions for appropriateness.
- Develop modes of communication with clients to measure care and service delivery and effectiveness.
- Conduct staff meetings for the purposes of planning, coordinating and implementing nursing service policies and procedures.
- Plan, develop, implement and direct the nursing service and its programs.
- Be accountable for the development, organization and implementation of approved policies and procedures.
- · Oversight of the Infection Prevention program.
- Evaluate resident care as related to the individualized resident’s needs, family involvement and the physician’s plan of care and assess resident response.
- Maintain adequate health care staffing at all times, work with department scheduler to ensure daily staffing needs (DHPPD) is achieved. Develop on call pool to avoid dependence on outside contract/registry.
- Develop a platform that encourages collaboration with QAPI systems to elevate care delivery to optimal performance and compliance levels.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
- Participate in health care committee meetings and functions on committees as assigned.
- Attend departmental and all-staff in-services and continuing education programs.
- Participate and offer support with Interdisciplinary (IDT), Behavioral Management, Safety, Rehab-skilled, Triple check committees to ensure corporate compliance expectations.
- Be able to work harmoniously with co-workers and deal tactfully with residents, family members and visitors.
- Must be able to make independent decisions.
- Evaluate incoming residents for the SNF and recommend the appropriate level of care.
- Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold a current RN license in the State of California.
- Have no less than 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Have current knowledge of federal and state long term care regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MANAGEMENT OR SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Direct and supervise the scheduling of employees within established guidelines.
· Hire, supervise, evaluate, discipline and recommend separations.
· Prepare written employee evaluations and initiate recommendations for salary increases, promotions or terminations.
· Make budget recommendations and cooperate with Administration in the development of a budget for the nursing department.
· Be responsible for adherence to the budget for the nursing department.
