Murdock Family Dentistry in the Billings Heights is seeking a well-qualified Full time Dental Assistant with a minimum of one year direct dental assisting experience. Knowledge and experience with Eaglesoft is preferred. This candidate must be genuinely friendly, extremely willing and capable of adapting and learning new skills and techniques both immediately and throughout their career, and must be inherently focused on being the best team player they can possibly be.
Our state of the art general dentistry practice has a wonderfully established patient base with constant New Patient inflow and a high rate of retention & appreciation from our patients. We stay very busy and have the most wonderful team of professionals working together to help create a comfortable and fun environment for our life long patients.
Hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 5:30pm. Some Fridays as needed. Pay is dependent on experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Dental Assistant
VISION
The Dental Assistant is the right-hand of the doctor taking care of all the needs of our patients. They create efficient delivery models, instrumentation, and sterilization so the dentist can provide the best clinical care and results. They provide a calm and warm environment for patients who are otherwise anxious and concerned about “what is going to happen next.” The clinical skills required for getting ready for anesthetic, support of restorative/cosmetic procedures, and the taking of x-rays are delivered with the best outcomes.
The Dental Assistant sets the tone for the appointment by engaging in purposeful conversations that identify patients’ motivators, concerns, and captures all pertinent information through effective charting skills. The
Dental Assistant supports patients’ clinical and emotional needs by ensuring that patients understand the treatment that they need. They coordinate with the front office team to ensure seamless delivery and accountability for scheduling and follow-through on financial arrangements. The number one responsibility of all employees is patient care and meeting patient needs. The Dental Assistant is expected to do all they can each day to ensure ideal treatment outcomes for the patient, superb patient experiences, and contribute to the whole-team alignment in Dr. Murdock's PRACTICE VISION. This guide outlines responsibilities that must be accomplished daily, weekly, and monthly. Other responsibilities may be required, as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Specific
- Review patient medical history (Any change in prescription medication, recent surgeries or hospitalization?) and confirm antibiotic pre-medication has been taken if applicable; report information to Dentist
- Take digital radiographs including vertical and horizontal bitewings, periapicals, full-mouth series, panoramic, or occlusals, as needed.
- Take intraoral and extraoral photographs to complete records and aid in treatment planning.
- Prepare the patient for the appropriate procedures (seating, imaging, mouth rinse, vitals if needed, etc.).
- Instruct patient in tooth brushing and flossing techniques, aids and proxy brush, perio aids, electric toothbrushes and waterjets, oral rinses, anti-caries products, and nutrition.
- Support the doctor during the procedure through charting and instrumentation.
- Make sure the patient’s record is complete and all services for the day’s treatment are recorded.
- Maintain proper sterilization-package instruments in their correct groupings and check bur blocks for completeness and order.
- Put away instruments in rooms and keep bur blocks and other supplies stocked and in their proper place, maintaining a clean and organized work space
- Disinfect operatories between procedures per the OSHA Standard guidelines.
- Utilize an efficient system to monitor lab case progression including outgoing and incoming cases and communicate with the lab to resolve any other lab issues.
- Enter detailed and accurate notes with all the pertinent discussions of treatment recommendations, options, and timeline plans noted in the computer in a joint effort with the doctor and treatment coordinator, when necessary.
- Communicate referral and medical consult information to front office team and patients, and follow-up on progress of referrals/medical consultations.
- Properly dispose of the biohazard materials in biohazard box.
- Ensure nitrous and oxygen tanks are changed when needed.
- If RDA/CDA – Perform all the clinical duties that are called for, per your licensure.
- Stay with patient in operatory when the Dentist is present to ensure proper documentation of patient conversations and to assist in their needs.
- Launder clinical scrubs daily
- Remove trash from ALL areas of the office daily (clinic, bathrooms, lab, kitchen, front office, Dr. Murdock office etc.) – Trash to be taken to dumpster by two team members at all times
- Assure the cleanliness and organization of clinical area nightly; including operatories, lab, floors, countertops, etc.
- Collect vitals for all new patients beings seen in the clinic for the first time.
- Prior to the morning huddle, initiate clinic operations (clinic lights, cure lights, mirrors, suction, compressor, computers, panoramic unit, CEREC system, etc.)
- Work with other clinic team members in daily, weekly, monthly equipment maintenance procedures.
Practice Management
- Do a thorough chart review and bring pertinent information to the huddle.
- Review the schedule to share if there are any special needs or areas of concern to share with the team.
- Debrief and handoff patients appropriately so that the front desk knows what was done during the appointment and the patient is aware of the next step in treatment.
- Keep an organized back office, sterilization, and lab areas.
- Communicate with the Clinical Director in the management of the clinical inventory system.
- Make sure post-op calls are completed as delegated with proper documentation.
- Complete Daily 5 checklist for your role each day.
- Complete all assigned tasks in the Action Center of the Spear Practice Solutions Analytics Platform.
Teamwork/Cross-Training
- All back-office team members must look for projects to keep them busy during down time.
- Proactively communicate with the front office so they know any changes in treatment and what treatment needs to be done at the next appointment.
- Take initiative when practice is running behind or under staffed, being part of the solution
- Participate in all team meetings by being prepared with assignments, offering insight into trends, statistics, and engaging in brainstorming activities to support the practice goals
- Assist front office when called upon for tasks.
- Encourage efficient and office-focused use of time and discussions
- Make confirmation calls, medical consultations, referrals and post-op or follow-up calls, when needed
- Assist hygiene when possible with charting, panos, sterilization, turning operatories over and other tasks that help serve our patients.
- Use excellent verbal skills with team, as well as with patients
- Utilize the ‘Patient Memo’ system to document pertinent information that will help in providing extra information pertaining to the patient and their needs, likes and concerns
- Embody the practice philosophy, systems, vision and mission in all actions and decisions.
- Keep shared team spaces and kitchen clean and organized (dishes, tabletop, floor, bathroom) and personal items kept in provided locker space
