Summary
Overall, a janitor plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for building occupants and visitors.
Responsibilities:

Cleaning Duties: Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing floors; dusting surfaces; cleaning windows, mirrors, and glass partitions; emptying trash bins; and disposing of waste properly.

Restroom Maintenance: Cleaning and disinfecting toilets, sinks, urinals, and other restroom fixtures; restocking toilet paper soap, and other supplies; and ensuring restrooms are presentable and hygienic.

Surface Sanitization: Disinfecting high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, handrails, and elevator buttons to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

Floor Care: Stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; shampooing carpets; and performing other specialized floor maintenance tasks to keep surfaces clean and well-maintained.

Trash Management: Collecting and disposing of trash and recyclable materials in designated containers or disposal areas, adhering to waste management regulations and procedures.

Supply Management: Monitoring and restocking cleaning supplies, such as soaps, detergents, paper towels, and trash bags, to ensure adequate inventory levels for daily operations.

Equipment Maintenance: Cleaning and maintaining cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and pressure washers, to ensure they function properly and safely.

Reporting Maintenance Issues: Identifying and reporting any maintenance or repair issues, such as leaks, faulty equipment, or structural damage, to the appropriate personnel for resolution.

Adherence to Safety Regulations: Following safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries while performing cleaning tasks, including the safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Follow established safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Flexibility and Adaptability: Being willing to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the cleaning needs of the facility and respond to emergencies or special events.

Customer Service: Providing friendly and professional customer service to building occupants, responding to their requests and concerns promptly and courteously.

Teamwork: Collaborating with other janitorial staff or maintenance personnel to coordinate cleaning schedules, share workload, and ensure all areas of the facility are adequately cleaned and maintained.
Minimum Qualifications:

Previous experience in custodial or facilities maintenance preferred

Knowledge of industrial cleaning techniques and practices

Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and carpet cleaners - Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects if required
