The Scenic Artist & Fabricator plays a pivotal role within the Fabrication Department, leading the design and painting of custom sets, props, and installations for various events and projects. This position enhances and complements our team's capabilities, ensuring a positive experience for all parties involved.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret and realize the scenic designer’s vision, translating design concepts into tangible scenic elements.
- Execute advanced painting techniques, including trompe l'oeil, faux finishes, textures, and aging effects to create realistic or stylized scenery.
- Ensure all scenic elements meet high-quality standards and adhere to design specifications.
- Add detailed elements to sets and props, such as murals, trompe l'oeil effects, or intricate patterns and embellishments.
- Collaborate with leadership and fabrication team members to understand the project needs and the expectations for each event.
- Determine proper tools and creative elements required for each project.
- Develop strong internal relationships to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
- Forecast equipment and creative elements, preparing throughly for project execution.
- Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate innovative ideas into scenic artistry and fabrication.
- Store and properly label all files in a managed file system.
- Maintain detail records of notes and details for reference on projects.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in scenic design and painting, preferably in an event production or related industry.
- Strong knowledge and experience in scenic art techniques, such as faux finishing or airbrushing, is beneficial.
- Ability to interpret design concepts and bring them to life.
- Proficiency in working with various materials, including wood, metal, plastics, and foam.
- Excellent skills in drawing, painting, and color theory. Ability to create realistic textures and finishes.
- Knowledge of relevant software such as Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, or AutoCAD is a plus.
- Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively under the guidance of the Head of Fabrication and alongside fabricators and designers.
- Must be punctual and flexible, with the ability to work on weekends occasionally.
- Anility to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
