POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Pars Social Services Team, the person in this position works as an Employment Specialist providing core services to Iranian-American community living in the LA area. The Employment Specialist is responsible to establish and maintain working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities for participants. The position requires a combination of administrative/office duties and field/outreach work. The Employment Specialist is responsible to provide extensive employment services to newly arriving Iranian refugees, and asylees, to assist them in gaining self-sufficiency and independence through employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Pars clients seeking employment in order to assess their needs, skills, and limitations and provide career coaching with the goal of successful job placement.
- Assists in the development of an Individualized Employment Plan based on client’s needs and collaborate with the Program Manager in providing training in the areas of resume writing, interviewing skills, interpersonal communication, etc.
- Help clients develop short term and long-term employability, and educational goals that lead to a prolonged economic self-sufficiency.
- Identify job opportunities based on clients’ skill assessments. Assist clients in filling out employment applications, set up interviews with potential employers, and accompany clients to interview or arrange for transportation. Follow up with employers regarding job placement status.
- Design and deliver pre-employment training while maintaining a solid system to track employment goals as well as maintain and update client files reflecting their status.
- Establish a working relationship with business and community based organizations to ensure coordination of services and development of job placement opportunities.
- Actively seek to add new advocates and businesses to increase job placement opportunities.
- Work with program staff to develop a comprehensive VESL and employment skills program and follow up/record client’s progress on both VESL and Employment skills.
- Assists with providing on-the-job support and follow-up activities in order to maintain a healthy working relationship between the clients and the employers.
- Conduct formal follow-up evaluations with employers and clients.
- Prepare reports and maintain records to keep the Program Manager informed of progress and accomplishment of both job seekers and Employers.
- Perform other duties as they are developed based on changing needs of the organization and clients.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- BA in Human Resources or a relevant field, And/ Or, three years of related experience.
- Extensive knowledge of CA/LA Labor Market.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills along with the ability to multitask and handle time sensitive matters in a fast pace environment.
- Automobile and valid CA driver’s license and auto liability coverage according to the Agency requirement.
- Excellent computers skills: MS Office (all apps).
- Excellent cross cultural experience and ability to work well with a diverse team.
- Multi-lingual , reading, writing and speaking English and Persian ( Farsi).
- Flexibility of schedule to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work plus some out of state travels.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
