Sales Associate
SABIA is a company that manufactures, sells and services real-time bulk-sample analysis instrumentation and process-control software used by cement, power generation and mining companies worldwide. Our company is based in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo) with manufacturing facilities in Idaho, a subsidiary in Delhi, India, and support based in Nanjing, China.
Sabia has need of a new Sales Manager, but this position will require substantial training: Our products are technical and specialized, serving a range of industries in many countries. For the near term, we are comfortable hiring someone with people skills who can handle technical information; who can convey information effectively; and who is thorough and detail-oriented.
When the candidate is trained, they will be promoted to the Sales Manager position. We expect the training period to take six to nine months. There are only a small number of manufacturers worldwide making products for our markets and domestic and international travel will be required — sales managers in similar roles typically travel for work 50 to 70 percent of the time. The sales cycle for our products can be as short as a couple of months to as long as several years, and it is imperative, as in sales of all expensive capital equipment, to track opportunities closely, follow up diligently and close sales when the opportunities arise to do so.
To qualify for an interview, your background must include strong communication skills and sales experience. The successful candidate will be effective working at a manufacturing plant, in an executive office or at a conference or trade show. A background including some working knowledge of chemistry, physics and/or industrial process controls would be of particular interest.
To be successful in this position you must understand what our products do, how they work for different applications and how they meet the needs of different customers and prospective customers. Over time, people throughout the company will help you to learn what you will need to know, at the company and in the field — including detailed product knowledge, knowledge about our customers’ applications, some knowledge about nucleonics and regulatory issues; and overall knowledge of where and how our products work most effectively.
