We are looking for a PRN nurse with ideally ICU or ER experience who can commit to 1 shift per week to join our team at Alfa Surgery Center! A second shift may be offered for potential staffing needs.
We are open Monday-Thursday from 6:45 to about 5 pm (variable closing times)
The RN provides safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative, individualized and goal-oriented nursing care to patients and their families during their time at the center. The application of physiologic and psychosocial knowledge and skills promotes, restores and maintains the patient's physiological processes in a safe, comfortable and effective environment, while facilitating the patient's adaptation to his/her care-related experiences. This may include pre-procedure, intra-procedure and/or post-procedure nursing care.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assessment:
- Assess the physical status of the patient through personal observation and interaction
- Assess the psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient
- Demonstrate understanding and interpretation of diagnostic tests (ie: labs, imaging studies, EKG etc)
- Able to obtain an general overview of the patient’s status by reviewing the patients charts and/or notes from the clinic
- May include (but is not limited to):
- Patient assessment, teaching, evaluation in all areas of care
- Evaluation of patient understandings related to procedure, after care, medications, etc.
Planning
- Plans for a safe, efficient, effective and clean environment for pre, intra and post-procedural patient care
- Problem identification, plans actions for problem resolution
- Goal identification for patient care and communication re: these goals with other team members
- Ensures patient meets criteria for care: has necessary lab work, tests, preparations, education, etc.
- Ensures the patient meets criteria for discharge: has written copy of discharge instructions (post-procedure), accompanied by responsible adult for post-sedation care, transportation, etc.
- Working with other team members for more efficient workflow during the patient’s visit
- Working with the patient’s family/significant other to determine appropriateness of planned after-care
- Planning for upcoming scheduled patients and ensuring appropriate supply levels
- Evaluation of patient charts prior to date of service to ensure appropriate documentation is present (labs, imaging, etc)
Implementation
- Takes action and appropriate nursing interventions to resolve any problems identified and meet patient goals for safe care and appropriate discharge
- Utilizes professional nursing judgment in delivery of patient care
- Uses appropriate supplies, equipment and resources to optimize efficiency while controlling costs resulting in no compromise of patient care
- Uses safe methods when handling all supplies and equipment
- Works to reduce chances of nosocomial infection by ensuring attention to infection control and environment safety practices
- Reports and documents information accurately and in a timely manner
- May be expected to lift twenty-five pounds without assistance – this includes requirement(s) to obtain assistance when needed. This requirement may include pushing patients on wheelchairs or on gurneys
May include (but is not limited to):
- Direct patient care (vital signs, monitoring, starting IV, etc)
- Administration of medication(s)
- Assisting physician
- Cleaning of patient care areas/equipment
- Recovery of patient
- Ability to intervene during unexpected patient outcomes with appropriate skill and care
- Discharge teaching (patient and family)
- Appropriate use of equipment
Communication
- Uses appropriate lines of communication
- Shares workload appropriately by fostering a co-operative team effort approach
- Conveys a positive and caring attitude toward patients, peers, staff and others
- Seeks guidance, direction, and assistance appropriately
- Conveys ideas, concepts and facts relative to patient care in a logical, understandable and concise manner
- Appropriate use of email, fax, etc.
- Appropriate interpersonal relationships between team members, physicians, and others
Accountability
- Seeks appropriate leaning opportunities: all RN’s at the center should be cross trained to cover all areas within their scope of practice
- Demonstrates competence and skills in nursing practice and utilizes appropriate judgment in determining nursing actions
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient and center documents and communications
- Acts as patient advocate in all areas of care at the center
- Accountable to safety rules at all times
- Appropriate knowledge of use and locations for all supplies and equipment necessary for patient care at the center
- Accountable to center policies and procedures
- May include (but is not limited to):
- Demonstrating flexibility in work schedule based on center requirements
- Attends in-services and meetings and meets training requirements for all nursing areas within appropriate time frame
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current RN licensure in state of California
- Full command of the English language, both verbal and written
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Preferred: ICU and/or Procedural sedation experience
- Preferred: two years current nursing experience
- Spanish speaking a plus
Pay: $48.00 - $55.00 per hour
