Summary of Position:
Reporting to the Safety Director, the Safety Manager is primarily responsible for leading and managing the Company’s safety initiatives and safety loss control programs, and the development of a safety and risk management culture. Assures the Company's safety program is designed to comply with OSHA and other construction industry standards.
Essential Supervisory Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
· Reports any workplace accident/injury immediately to Safety Committee per company Safety I&IPP; ensures that the employee calls Medcor upon learning of any accident/injury to employee.
· Complete all required OSHA reporting (eg. OSHA 300 logs, etc.).
· Complete all accident/incident investigations to include as much detail as possible. This includes interviews with employees and witnesses as well as photos per occurrence. All accident/incident investigations should be completed within 24 hours of the accident/incident.
· Responsible for leading and organizing monthly Accident Review Board and Quarterly Safety Meeting.
· Provide all Environmental Health and Safety training to meets needs of internal and external requirements.
· Ensure compliance with the Safety Program and I&IPP. Documenting employees with Safety Awareness Notices when found to be in violation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
· Leads development of and clearly articulates Company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures in order to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors and Company expectations.
· Always engage in open communication with the Superintendent and Project Manager; always report any safety issues directly.
· Researches new regulations (eg. COVID-19), Workplace Violence and developments in the field of Health and Safety and recommend changes in the Company’s program.
· Assists in the documentation and implementation of required or desired changes in the safety program.
· Writes job specific safety plans; schedules job site visits and safety audits.
· Ensures full compliance of the safety program.
· Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions, and monitors results to make improvements or take corrective action.
· Leads accident/incident investigations and properly documents and reports all findings to the Executive Management Team.
· Manages hazard assessment activities by conducting and/or supervising safety inspections, and analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities to develop preventive and corrective practices. Administer job specific safety plans.
· Reviews documentation to insure all required onsite records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures.
· Reinforces safety awareness in a manner that promotes cooperation and improved morale.
· Assists in the tracking of the Experience Modification Factor while increasing awareness of the Experience Mod Factor.
· Coordinates with insurance carrier’s safety persons.
· Accompanies all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through inspections.
· Provides weekly tailgates safety talks to crew at job sites.
· Develops annual plans & budgets for safety & health initiatives.
· Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with, the principles of the company’s Safety and Code of Safe Practices as well as the Fleet Safety Management Guidelines and Policies.
· Delegate tasks and accountabilities, instruct, supervise, lead and direct base crew.
· Liaise between the company and employees on a variety of employee related matters.
· Comply with relevant legislation regarding employee management, terminations, and resignations.
· Handle and thoroughly investigate all employee concerns.
· Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program and encourage all employees to adopt safety as a culture.
· Review safe work plans with crew prior to job commencement.
· Investigate any/all damage, incidents, or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.
· Work in a safe responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others.
· Participate as a vital team member and contribute towards the success of the company.
· Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees.
Essential Secondary Functions:
· Assists in managing workers compensation and vehicle claims by providing detailed investigation forms to include the proper forms per each occurrence with as much detail as possible.
· Assists in managing return to work/restricted duty program.
· Manages safety incentive programs which reward targeted behaviors & results.
· Performs additional assignments as required by operating needs of the company or as directed by upper management, including but not exclusive to: ensuring compliance with pollution control and environment issues; involvement in disaster response and planning.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor's degree preferred (preferably in environmental health and safety).
· Valid Driver License.
· OSHA certification required; CSP certification preferred.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in construction industry safety management.
· Minimum 5 years of experience managing & leading a structured safety program.
· In depth technical knowledge of construction related OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective practices.
· Experience managing staff and third party hired firms.
· Must be an effective communicator, generating professional written material and delivering effective verbal presentations.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
