Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Vice President or Product Development, the Director of Product Management is someone who provides product team direction, develops product briefs and innovation, and assists to develop product strategy in accordance with company policies and procedures. Duties include product line strategy, product development, market research support and quality support. This position will build a team to work cross-functionally with shared product development services across the Johnson family, both in North America and Asia.
Responsibilities:
Product Development Strategy:
- Work with VP on keeping an updated 3-year product plan
- Coordinate international market requests into future product plan
Product Development Support:
- Provide direction to assist designers and product managers to select the best ID
- Coordinate with engineering on design and manufacturing considerations of new products
- Manage Owners Manuals and Assembly Guides
- Develop comprehensive product briefs and new product proposals
- Manage products through development process from cradle to grave
Innovation:
- Identify future opportunities two to three years in advance
- Bring two new concepts a year to the R&D center for further research
Market Research:
- Participate in customer sales meetings – retail and direct to consumer
- Conduct store visits to see retail landscape and note changes
- Meet with marketing to determine product research requests and guidelines
- Maintain current competitive landscape analysis for assigned product categories
QA Support:
- Coordinates with QA team and Product Safety Committee to note any product quality improvements
- Implements noted improvements in PPS and other design documents
- Assists in pushing the factory to implement quality improvements related to product
Marginal Job Functions:
- Other projects as needed.
Requirements:
Education:
- BS (business, marketing or related field) required
- MBA a plus; Engineering undergrad is a plus preferred
Experience:
- 3 years of product, sales or service experience in the fitness industry required
- 5 or more years of product management in another consumer industry preferred
Other Requirements:
- Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint required
- MS Project preferred
- Domestic, local and international travel will be required.
- Understanding of basic biomechanics
