This position is Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and offers a hybrid work schedule 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.
Transportation Assistant
SouthernCarlson, a national distributor of Fastening, Industrial and Packaging supplies, is seeking a customer service and employee-oriented individual to handle a variety of responsibilities in our Omaha South location.
The Transportation Assistant promotes customer satisfaction both internally and externally by coordinating third party product shipments to, from and within the Company in a timely and accurate manner. This position also participates in controlling costs through the selection of the lowest cost freight alternatives and maintenance of the internal TMS.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Shipment Coordination
- Assist operations personnel with domestic carrier selection
- Respond to requests for rate quotes and transit times
- Coordinate non-recurring or out-of-the-ordinary shipments
- Complete all necessary paperwork for shipments
- Assist with system maintenance of supplier freight terms and parameters.
Transportation Administration
- Assist in maintaining updated carrier routings for the internal TMS
- Audit carrier invoices and resolve billing issues including past due invoices
- Prepare transportation related reports
- Maintain shipment records and files
- Assist with analyzing freight information
- Assist with monitoring compliance with Company transportation policies
- Process paperwork for product return to suppliers and coordinate return to warehouse.
- Other transportation, customer service and administrative duties as requested or required.
Qualifications include:
- Previous transportation/logistics experience preferred
- Good organizational and planning skills
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
- Computer skills and experience including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Customer-service oriented.
