The Controls’ primary responsibility is to provides Instrument Controls support for Capital Projects used to improve operation of Sulfuric Acid Regeneration Units in Eco Services. Project installed cost range from $50 K to $15.0 MM across six sites in the United States with project drivers that include Process Safety, Increased Efficiency and Maintenance.
The Controls Engineer will work as part of a project team or independent as Project Manager/Controls Engineer. As part of the Project Team the Controls Engineer must be able to effectively communicate with all members of the Project Team. As a Project Manager the Controls Engineer must be able to communicate effectively with his customers that may include Operators, Unit Engineers and Plant Manager.
The Controls Engineer needs the ability to recognize reasonable alternatives and be able to communicate those alternatives in an effective way. The Controls Engineer must also be able to listen to proposed alternatives from the Project Team or Operators or Unit Engineers or Others and effectively vet them.
The Controls Engineer will also be an active member of a Process Hazard Review Team for capital projects and should understand the differences between a HAZOP, What-if’s and LOPA’s. The Controls Engineer will serve as an expert on the PHA team specifically in discussions around Safety Instrumented Functions and associated calculations with them.
Responsibilities
The Controls Engineer’s Responsibilities includes the following

Execute Logic for a new or modified process in a DCS or PLC from a provided Operational Statement.

Documentation of Logic flow in a Functional statement

Testing and documentation of such logic

Specification of Control System Hardware from P&ID’s and Operational Statements

Specify field instrumentation with support from the Project Team

Provide cost estimates, schedules and Controls Project Documentation as part of a Project Team or as a Project Manager

Manage Contractors used for installation of field instrumentation and required infrastructure

Support maintenance and Operations needs like interlock testing, valve tuning and modification of loops as needed

Process Expert on PHA team
Qualifications
The Controls Engineer’s Minimum Qualifications include:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering

5-year experience in Chemical Manufacturing

Experience working with Delta V and/or ABB X-800 and/or Foxboro Control Systems. Experience should include basic understanding of logic system and hardware.
