- PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION
- Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) procedure and service level codes to Pain Institute of Southern Arizona patient encounters. Reviews medical record documentation to ensure appropriate coding and billing of physician and non-physician patient services.
- GENERAL INFORMATION
- Must possess knowledge of ICD-10-CM and Current Procedural Terminology in addition to pain clinic terminology. Must have assertive communication skills and the ability to deal with others using tact and diplomacy. Computer skills and ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and Word are also required
- QUALIFICATIONS
- CPC (Certified Professional Coding) certification through the AAPC, AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist, AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator certification required within six months of employment.
- Work requires intermediate to advanced computer literacy skills to be able to operate in several applications at once and manipulate files. Knowledge of data abstracting software preferred. Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email.
- Work requires advanced interpersonal skills to exchange information between team members, physicians and other clinical staff and tactfully discuss quality issues
- Must be able to analyze medical records and coding guidelines, extract data, identify areas for quality improvement and verify compliance with all regulations.
