Medical Billing Specialist
Busy practice seeking an experienced medical biller to work two days per week in our Central Billing Office in East Lansing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing and coding, with the skills necessary to increase collections and reduce A/R days by effectively working denied claims. The successful applicant must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be a great team player and demonstrate a high level of professionalism. Candidate must show respect for colleagues, co-workers, and patients.
- Ensure all paper claims are submitted with proper documentation attached daily
- Reading and interpreting of Explanation of Benefits
- Review and correct claims that fail in the practice management system and/or in the clearing house system.
- Respond to inquiries by insurance companies, patients, and front office staff
- Set up payment plans and processes electronic payments when necessary.
- Denial management
- Meet with Practice Manager to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or obstacles
- Additional duties as assigned by management
Required Skills and Experience:
- Computer skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Professional office experience
- Experience in CPT and ICD-10 coding
- Claims appeal and resolution experience
- Payment posting
- Accounts receivable knowledge
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- EMR and PM experience (Allscripts experience preferred)
- 2 years medical billing experience required
