The People & Culture Generalist is responsible for performing the full-cycle, day-to-day people operations required to support our Property Management teams. The People & Culture Generalist will have a strong focus on managing employee relations matters and conducting investigations, while also handling a variety of other general people operations tasks to support the Property Management Division. Under the guidance of the VP of People & Culture, this role will be responsible for performing, coordinating, and/or communicating team member initiatives related to hiring, onboarding, employee relations, investigations, performance management, HR compliance, risk management, retention, leave administration, policy and procedure interpretation and other team member-related functions as requested.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
People Operations for the Property Management Division:

Conducts regular meetings with Property Management leadership providing HR guidance and ensuring people activities are aligned with business needs.

Acts as the go-to people operations resource supporting employees and managers with all aspects of employee relations and policies and procedures interpretation.

Effectively communicates with managers to provide direction and guidance on employment issues including disciplinary actions, behavior and conduct issues, terminations, leave administration, workplace conflict and other team member-related issues.

Manages internal employment investigations process; work with senior leadership to facilitate investigations and actively participate when necessary.

Provides support to the VP of People & Culture and the broader People & Culture team on employment actions.

Assists management in preparing performance coaching and formal disciplinary actions, ensuring official documentation is properly maintained to support recommended employment actions.

Consults with management in developing employee performance improvement plans. Partners with management to ensure proper policies and procedures are followed when preparing notices related to employee counseling and disciplinary actions.

Regularly reviews forms and processes and makes recommendations for improvements.

Assists the VP of People & Culture in developing and implementing policies and procedures, preparing and maintaining employment handbook updates on policies and procedures.

Conducts research and stays up-to-date on employment laws, employee and wage data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.

Lends assistance and input with new hire orientation, People & Culture initiatives, and manager development training.

Works closely with business unit management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity, and increase retention.

Administers the performance management program, including annual reviews, for assigned business unit.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or business discipline; or related area

3+ years of employee relations work experience; comprehensive understanding of employment laws and regulations and working knowledge of multiple human resources disciplines such as performance management, diversity, and recruiting.

Strong understanding of labor and employment law and employee relations.

PHR or SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP) preferred.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must be very detail oriented.

High degree of personal initiative and motivation, setting personal standards of excellence and ongoing performance improvement.

Ability to maintain regular, consistent office hours working in our Vienna, VA office.
