Summary: The Aide is responsible for the delivery of patient treatment programs as designed and directed by a licensed Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant or Occupational Therapist Assistant. The Aide works under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical or Occupational Therapist
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include following. However, other duties may be assigned as needed:
- Optimize communication with Therapist regarding patient’s status and treatment.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Track insurance authorizations, look up patient benefits and eligibility, and communicate with insurance companies
- Monitor and instruct patients on individualized exercise programs created by a Therapist.
- Track and Deliver progress notes to physicians for review and signatures
- Scan and organize patient paperwork
- Apply modalities as directed by a licensed Therapist.
- Optimize patient flow through their treatment program. Keep patient’s waiting time to a minimum.
- Clean and put away treatment area.
- Take inventory of clinical supplies and order equipment as needed.
- Monitor equipment condition and report problems to office manager.
Education and/or Experience: Preferably one-year experience in a physical/occupational therapy department or related occupation and or student enrolled in physical or occupational therapy curriculum program. Bachelor of Science in health related field or other physical therapy related major looking to become a PT, PTA, OT, Etc.
Other Qualifications: Personal and interpersonal communication. Ability to follow direction. Patient care. Proper operation of equipment. General good nature. General knowledge of exercises, anatomy and physiology. Quick learner, organized, respectful, honest, self-motivated, and able to multitask.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the medical community.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: The Aide must have the ability to meet the needs of the situation at hand when dealing with patient and family concerns and respond appropriately. Must exercise sound judgment and competence during the performance of all duties as assigned. Must understand when a task is within abilities and when to ask for assistance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and sit. The employee is frequently required to be mobile and demonstrate exercises for patients. In addition, the Physical/Occupational Therapist Aide may need to move heavy equipment or assist patients when walking or from sit to stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

This outpatient physical therapy center is associated with the neighboring clinical and surgery center, therefore patients are often post-operative.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Activity level in the work environment is usually high with multiple therapists, patients, and treatment equipment in motion.
