Summary: Performs a variety of highly technical duties in the design, programming and maintenance of microprocessor based fire alarm, intercom and public address or surveillance camera systems. Incumbent supervises the installation of these systems by CMS employees or outside contractors. Job requires proven skills and knowledge and of support CMS goals by performing their duties accurately and efficiently. Act as and perform the daily duties of the Assistant Supervisor and/or Electronic Supervisor in their absence. The typical specialty area will either be fire alarms, intercoms and public address (PA) systems or surveillance camera systems, but typically not both categories.
Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)
- Perform all duties required of an Electronics Technician II
- Design, program and supervise the installation of fire alarm systems
- Design, program and supervise the installation of intercom systems
- Design, program and supervise the installation of surveillance camera systems
- Design, program and supervise the installation of public address (PA) systems
- Assist in the daily duties of the Electronics Department office work
- Coordinate the permitting and inspection of construction work with Building Standards
- Assist in the preparation of specifications and guidelines for surveillance camera installations
- Acts in an 'on call' status in the event of afterhours emergencies
- Performs the daily duties of the absence of the supervisor
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Minimum
- A.A.S. Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or one year trade certificate program (post high school) or 5 years equivalent experience in fire alarms and intercoms or surveillance cameras
- Three to five years of service in the installation, repair, and maintenance of fire alarm, intercom systems and PA or surveillance camera systems depending on focus
Desirable
- A.S. Degree in the field of Electronic Engineering Technology
- A minimum of five years of service in the installation, repair, and maintenance of fire alarms, intercoms, PA systems and surveillance cameras
Licensing / Certification Requirements:
- If the job focus is fire alarm, intercom and PA systems, must possess or obtain within one (1) year NICET Level II certification
- If the job focus is surveillance camera systems, must possess or obtain within one (1) year a Genetec Video Management Systems certificate
- Possession of valid Driver's License
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Basic computer skills i.e., Windows. Microsoft Office.
- Current NFPA 72 and 101 Codes and Regulations
- Current N.C. State Electrical Codes
Ability to:
- Operate and maintain a variety of fire alarm, intercom, PA or surveillance camera systems
- Perform programming functions of fire alarm, intercom, PA or surveillance camera systems
- Diagnose defects and make skillful repairs quickly and efficiently
- Estimate time and materials for the installation of fire alarm, intercom, PA or surveillance camera systems
- Read schematic diagrams and blueprint drawings
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with School Administrators, Building Inspectors, Contractors, and Vendors
