Position:Fiber-Optic Splicer and Outside Project Technician
Description:We are looking for IT professionals that specialize on the networking side. Typical tasks will include provisioning new circuits, troubleshooting outages, installing hardware/software, managing firewalls, configuring servers & VMs, etc……Person will need to report to the office in Sullivan IL
Key Duties/Responsibilities
- The schedule for this position is 40+ hours per week and has various work hours consisting of afternoons, nights and weekends
- Proficient in all types of terminating, splicing, and testing both inside and outside plant
- Provide support during the day and on-call
- Telecom certifications are a plus
- Candidate will install, terminate, test, label and document horizontal, backbone & other cables.
- Prepping and fusion splice SM and occasionally MM fiber optic cables, in both outdoor and indoor settings
- Able to place a mid-sheath splice
- Work with Construction PMs and/or OSP Engineers to perform splicing as directed
- Testing and troubleshooting fiber using an OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifier and scope
- Makes precise recommendations for changes in running fiber optic cables, or provides input into construction methodologies
- Participates in engineering, permit and construction processes (if required)
- Provide the OSP Engineers with detailed reports of field splicing activity
- On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables until service is restored
- Reviews and interprets underground and aerial cable records in existing records, on maps or in the field
- Constructs proper splice cases pressurized and non-pressurized, using all types and sizes of cable, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing
- Be able to install ONT, FDP, Patch Panels, Fiber Enclosure, Fiber Tray.
- Installations will include dressing and routing of cable into telecommunications closets, modular furniture and other work area outlets.
- Use Cyan/Ciena/Accedian/Cisco hardware and software to provision services and assure service delivery
- Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment
- Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NESC and NEC, etc ; as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations, and Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook)
- All work will be accomplished in accordance with ANSI/EIA/TIA standards and national electrical code as well as national and state environmental, health and safety policy. Work may include reviewing potential job prospects and/or conducting site surveys and developing estimates.
