McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics (MSBMI) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is recruiting for a full-time Research Assistant Professor specializing in computational histopathology within the context of translational AI research. The successful candidate will be crucial in converting advanced AI theories into applicable real-world solutions, ensuring they are user-centric and accessible.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop innovative algorithms and models to extract human-interpretable components from histopathology images, such as cells, tissue patterns, and microarchitectures.
- Refine and integrate AI/ML models, evaluating model behavior and robustness to improve model performance and generalizability.
- Design and implement computational pathology pipelines to support data-driven cancer research.
- Curate internal and external histopathology data, developing cross-modality data integration solutions.
- Collaborate with other departments and team members to promote synergy between computer science and cancer research.
- Engage with cross-functional teams to understand domain-specific needs and share insights on adapting AI tools accordingly.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI, front-end technologies in computational pathology, and relevant domain knowledge.
- Contribute to research publications, grant writing, and conferences in the field.
UTHealth Houston is in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC) located in cosmopolitan Houston, Texas, the fourth largest city in the United States. SBMI currently offers Master's and Ph.D. Degrees, along with a certificate program in biomedical and health informatics.
APPOINTMENTS/BENEFITS:
This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment on the non-tenure track, renewable yearly.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The individual should possess a doctoral degree in one of the following areas: bioinformatics, genomics, genetics, computational biology, biomedical informatics, computer science, medicine, biostatistics, or related disciplines. A record of verifiable and published research in bioinformatics and genomics and the potential for obtaining extramural funding are preferred.
