Haig Point Club Best in Class Marine Transportation department is looking for Ferry Captains to join its team of professionals.
General Purpose: The operation of vessels using expert seamanship, maintaining compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations that apply to small passenger vessels, and serving members and guests within a private, residential community
Essential Duties:
Deliver consistent and personal service to our members and guests
Required to exercise expert judgment regarding the seaworthiness of the vessel, fitness of the crew assigned to the vessel, maintaining the highest levels of safety as the fundamental guiding factor when executing duties as Captain
Must be able to demonstrate expert proficiency on all vessels ranging from 26’ – 55’, especially during difficult conditions included but not limited to, high winds, reduced visibility, night time operations, towing, anchoring, and close quarters docking
Must be able to stay on schedule while performing routine operations including, but not limited to: passenger boarding, securing cargo, departure messages, detailing and completing log entries, docking, fueling, and water taxis
Ensures the vessels are fueled, supplied and cleaned as needed
Maintains and demonstrates proficiency in: basic marine equipment repair skills, troubleshooting marine system, USCG emergency drills, and all Ferry Company SOP especially safety
Assists in the training of new employees
Demonstrates flexibility and ability to multi task in various situations
Functions well within in a highly motivated team
Incorporates safe work practices into daily operations
Education/ Experience: At least two years of experience as a Commercial Captain on small passenger vessels is required.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 50lbs. Ability to maintain good balance on moving decks and docks. Must be able to swim. Must meet DOT drug free work place regulations. Must have annual physical as required by USCG.
Environmental/Noise: Work is outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to loud.
Certificates/Licenses: 50 Ton Inland Masters License or better required. TWIC required. FCC restricted radio operators permit required. Valid CPR/AED and First Aid Required.
Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences: Must be 18 years of age. Ability to read and speak English may be required to perform duties of the job. Excellent customer service skills required. Ability to take direction and complete tasks a must. Attention to detail an asset.
