Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under 1) through 4):
1. A Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling.
2. A Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling; AND either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, OR completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, OR two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:
a. Counseling for students with disabilities; OR
b. Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities.
3. A Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling; AND possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); AND either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, OR completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, OR two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:
a. Counseling for students with disabilities; OR
b. Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities.
4. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in either 1) through 3) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application.
Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications. Coursework and degrees that are completed outside of the United States are required to have transcripts evaluated (evaluation to U.S. equivalency and a course by course analysis) by an appropriate U.S. credentials evaluation service. NOTE: For professional experience, a “year” is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 10 months.
