POSITION: College & Career Case Manager
COMPENSATION: $21.00 - $22.00/ hour
REPORTS TO: Best Buy Teen Tech Coordinator
FLSA STATUS: Part time, Non-Exempt
OVERVIEW
Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the College & Career Bound Case Manager promotes student success, provides preventive services, and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. In addition, the position also provides supervision and promotes engagement of club members and ensures a safe and supportive environment for club members by promoting positive relationships.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and maintains a plan of action for effective delivery of the College & Career program based on the current member’s school data.

Communicates the goals of the comprehensive College & Career program to members, parents’ community groups and school officials.

Maintains current and appropriate resources for all participants.

Uses the majority of time providing direct services through guided curriculum, creation of individualized student plans, and providing preventative and responsive services to youth with the remaining time focused on program management, system support and accountability. Implements developmentally appropriate group activities to meet member’s needs and school goals.

Assists all members, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans. Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data.

Provides individual and group counseling and guidance including guiding and counseling students through the development of personal, social, educational, and career plans.

Counsels and assists members/parents in the process of seeking academic financial assistance through workshops, phone calls, and face-to-face interaction.

Consults and collaborates with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff about understanding and meeting the special needs of students and makes appropriate referrals.

Administers assessments, analyzes, and interprets test results to provide information about educational, career, and personal/social needs.

Assists with placement and follow-up services for students.

Assists students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning.

Provides information and resource services for students, parents/guardians, and faculty.

Assists members in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem- solving, and positive human relations skills.

Plans with teachers, counselors, parents/guardians, and students’ steps for modifying student behavior.

Utilizes community resources in addressing the needs of members.

Provides data concerning members’ needs to determine curricula development and direction.

Maintains comprehensive records and reports.

Provides individual counseling to members with identified concerns and needs.

Monitors member’s academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions.

Participates in special programs and/or events.

Participates in admin/school meetings

Collects and analyzes data to guide program direction and emphasis.

May be required to help in other program areas.

Assumes other duties as assigned.

Promotes program and recruits' members by working directly with schools personnel and contacting parents. Develop and implement recruitment strategy with Best Buy Teen Tech Coordinator to create a bridge between school site and clubhouse.
Requirements:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION
Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED.

Hold a valid driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle driving record check.

Pass a criminal background check.
-
Pass (negative result) a TB test.
-
Proven track record working with youth, in particular, young people from underserved neighborhoods

Work experience in an informal learning environment

Experience with computers and interest in technology as a creative and empowering tool
-
Experience in program development and implementation.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 12-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Excellent planning and organizational skills.

Good level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.

Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive data, and information.

Must have knowledge of word processing programs, spreadsheets, creating presentations, email platforms, online researching, and other communication tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING
-
Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles Watts Willowbrook site and Jordan High School and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.

Work is performed in the community as well as an office setting.

Evening or weekend hours required on an as needed basis.
