Chief Engineer, Required Qualifications:
- Merchant Mainer Credential with Open Oceans Endorsement
- Chief Engineer license, DDE 4000< (domestic vessels)
- STCW Complaint, OC Endorsements are preferred but not required in all circumstances
- 1 years< experience as a Chief Engineer
- Training and experience with electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and refrigeration systems
- Possesses good communication skills
Position Summary for Chief Engineers:
- Supervises the safe operation and maintenance of Machine Spaces
- Conducts on-the-job training and ensures engine room competencies
- Assists the Port Engineer in daily operations and documentation processes
- Ensures crew/vessel safety and compliance with company safety instructions and USCG regulations
- Confers with the Port Engineer on all issues pertaining to safety, discipline, purchasing and training
- Accurately maintains all required logbooks and vessel documentation
- Ensures the proper PPE is available and worn at all times, for the assigned task
- Ensures that all crew members are in compliance with company safety policies and procedures
- Advanced understanding of vessel machine operation and maintenance fundamentals
- Basic computer skills
- Additional knowledge/enhanced skill sets may be required by assignment or contract
- Additional experience/education and technical training may be required by contract or assignment
Chief Engineer, Responsibility and Authority
Responsibility:
- The safe and efficient operation of the vessel’s machine spaces
- Complying with USCG-COLREGs
- Implementing the Safety and Environmental policies of TDI Brooks International Inc.
- Motivating the crew to observe the Safety and Environmental policies of TDI Brooks International Inc.
Authority:
The Chief Engineer’s authority is second only to the captain in regards to the safety of the Crew, the Vessel, the Vessel’s Cargo. The Chief Engineer is in overall command of Engine Room Operations aboard. The Vessel Chief Engineer maintains the responsibility to make informed, appropriate, and concise decisions pertaining to vessel safety and pollution prevention.
Duties:
- The Chief Engineer must implement and support TDI Brooks International Inc. Policies and Procedures
- Any regulations applicable to vessel operations
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting for equipment failures, Incidents, Crew Illnesses
- Perform advanced troubleshooting
- Perform advanced repairs and routine maintenance
- Participate in Drills and Safety Meetings
- Perform Employment Evaluations for crewmembers
- Comply with the Company Safety Management Manual (SMM)
- Comply with the Oil Pollution Response Plan
- Comply with the Ballast Water Management Plan
- Comply with the Waste Management Plan
