CMT Lab Technician
DESCRIPTION
The Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Technician performs daily laboratory activities and tests products and materials per the approved project specifications and contract drawings without deviation from ASTM guidelines. The CMT Lab Technician is required to execute all tasks inside the lab and warehouse areas correlated to testing and storage of samples as assigned to them by the Lab Manager. The CMT Lab Technician must read and interpret testing guidelines from ASTM and others while also understanding construction specifications, engineering tables and other reference material for various scopes of work and ensure testing follows those guidelines and specifications. All work is required to be performed in a safe and professional manner.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Execute specific testing on construction materials brought to lab.
- Run Tests on sub-grade material, lime material, concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, and ensure all conditions meet ASTM testing requirements.
- Clearly and legibly record and document all testing on provided worksheets, and ensure these are tracked throughout the entire testing process.
- Ensure daily testing of all materials is per project specifications and documented.
- Communicate with management, field staff and client regarding field and laboratory testing results and requirements.
- Assist with cleaning the lab and warehouse spaces, keeping a clean work area at all times.
- Make trips to the field with the company assigned Lab Truck as needed to pick up samples or deliver items to clients and field technicians.
- Verify testing methods and quantities required per spec. to ensure work is acceptable and meets project specifications then complete reporting documentation.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner with clients, sub-contractors, co-workers, and supervisors at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by STL Supervisor or as required by project.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
: High School diploma or GED required. Regional or State Agency certification preferable. Extensive experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
Must be able to read and understand ASTM, AASHTO and ACI standards. Must be able to read architectural drawings and TxDOT drawings.
Must eventually obtain the following ACI Certifications (training and OJT will be provided):
ACI Aggregate Testing Technician
ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
ACI Aggregate Base Technician Level 1
Organized, Detailed Oriented and self-motivated with the ability to record and communicate observation results accurately.
Physically, workers must be able to; climb and maintain body balance; use hands and arms fully; stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or crouch for long periods; and see well (either naturally or with correction).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
