The lead technologist performs a variety of MRI and MRA imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the interface with department employees and the Director of Imaging Services in the successful operation of the MRI Department. Will assist in assigned administrative tasks and will maintain clinical competencies through participation in educational and orientation programs. Participates in preventative maintenance and quality improvement activities. Required to work regular shifts as well as being responsible for rotating holidays and call for emergency procedures after hours. Always work as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge and competency to perform MRI duties.
- Anticipate staffing needs to accommodate procedures scheduled.
- Make the department efficient with regard to patient flow, staffing, supply inventories.
- Provide assistance to departments covering technologist’s vacancies when needed.
- Ability to communicate with Director of Imaging Services, physicians, staff members, patients, suppliers, etc.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment.
- Satisfactorily demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrate competency in performing the job duties.
Accountability:
- Reports to: Director of Imaging Services
- Supervises: MRI Technologists.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a school of Radiologic Technology is required, college, vocational School or hospital trained.
- Registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and MRI required.
- Three years of MRI experience under a Board Certified Radiologist is preferred.
- BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire.

- Strength (Lift, Carry, Push, Pull): Medium (occasionally may have to assist a patient, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects).
- Standing/Walking: Frequently, activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 or more of the time.
- Keyboard/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time

Environmental Conditions:
Level: Moderate
- The environment conditions are moderate exposure to hazardous risks and contaminants, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids. There is a possibility of contamination or infection through accidental needle punctures or exposure to radioactive isotopes. Temperatures may vary in procedure environment, may stand on hard floors, exposed to a variety of interruptions, odor, and must wear universal protective clothing. Hazards will be minimized if universal safety procedures are followed.
