Medical Physicist

We are seeking a full-time Medical Physicist to join our Department of Radiation Oncology at The Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. In this position, you will actively participate in clinical practice and administrative responsibilities, including establishing adequate protocols for patient dosimetry, measuring and characterizing radiation and consulting with physicians to determine the appropriate treatment plan for each patient. This position also requires departmental research and radiation oncology physics teaching for physicians, medical physicists, residents and other departmental support staff and students.
Responsibilities:
· Develop procedures and participate in the initial acceptance, evaluation and commissioning of equipment used for external-beam therapy, radiosurgery, brachytherapy simulation, treatment planning and radiation detection and their associated computer systems, algorithms, data and output
· Evaluate imaging techniques that pertain to simulation, treatment planning and treatment delivery for radiotherapy and radiosurgery procedures, as well as dosimetry plans for the treatment of patients undergoing radiation therapy
· Develop equipment specifications for radiation therapy and radiosurgery equipment, brachytherapy simulation and radiation detection
· Develop and implement shielding designed to protect patients, workers and the public from radiation incidents
· Perform research, prepare scientific publications to support the academic development of medical physics at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University Medical School
· Provide radiation oncology physics teaching for our CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency program, CAMPEP-accredited medical physics graduate program, and radiation oncology physician residency program
· Provide institutional consultation for program development in radiation oncology
Qualifications:
· MS or PhD degree in physics or medical physics
· Appropriate board certification or demonstrated progress towards board certification
· Demonstrated experience working with medical physicists, radiation oncologists and other health care professionals in a Radiation Oncology Department
· Interpersonal skills to teach and supervise students and to interact with other members of the organization
· Candidates must meet the qualifications for faculty appointment at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University at the rank of Instructor, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor
