Reporting to the Principal, the Director of Early Childhood is a member of the senior staff and works closely with the Principal to lead and support our early childhood center spanning scholars from three months old through pre-K. The Director is responsible for leading, supervising and coaching staff and maintaining positive relationships with families and scholars. Ensuring teacher implementation of curriculum and evidence of scholar growth are key areas of focus for the Director of Early Childhood. The Director oversees compliance with all Early Education and Care regulations including record keeping, inservice training and professional development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Supervision
Serves on the schools leadership team and works to ensure the seamless connection between early childhood and elementary programming.
- Promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity, worth of staff, scholars, and complies with established lines of authority
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with all teachers, staff, families and community partners
- Completes monthly teacher observations and summary write-ups, using data to inform whole-team and differentiated support
- Provides regular feedback to staff including teaching and professional standards
- Designs and facilitates professional development monthly for all early childhood staff
- Maintains communication systems with staff and families to ensure consistent and transparent information sharing across stakeholders
Curriculum and Instruction
Works to implement a child centered approach, rooted in research and best practices.
- Ensures that high quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum is being implemented with fidelity in classrooms
- Coaches teachers and support staff in ensuring high quality instructional implementation across program
- Supports staff communication with families on scholar growth and development by overseeing teacher implementation of progress reports and participating in family communication
- Works with the administrative coordinator to ensure supplies and materials are readily available for instructional needs
Early Education and Care Compliance
Maintains a fluent understanding of EEC regulations and experience creating systems and structures of operations within compliance areas.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Managing and and updates licensure paperwork and operational systems required for staff and scholar records
- Creating schedules and staffing plans to ensure appropriate ratio is maintained and responsibilities are managed across the program team
- Conduct necessary processes to ensure files, records, and processes are complete in appropriate timelines
Collaboration
Works across departments to achieve program success.
- Serves as the Early Childhood expert on school leadership team in partnership with Universal PreK Director, Elementary Assistant Principal, and Principal
- Works with Enrollment Specialist to collect, review, upload EEC paperwork for new scholars, coordinate start dates for external scholars, develop transition timelines for internal scholars, and support with prospective family tours and answer frequently asked questions
- Collaborates with the Facilities Manager to ensure building licenses are up to date, conduct monthly fire drills, maintain a safe and clean school environment: classes, bathroom, playground, etc.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in early childhood education management or related field
- Proven track record of successful leadership and supervision in an educational setting
- Strong background in education administration and curriculum development
- Experience in budgeting, fundraising, and strategic planning
- Excellent public speaking skills and previous classroom experience

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
