SUMMARY
Quality assurance supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the Food Safety Quality Systems and food safety programs. The supervisor provides leadership and direction to the quality and cross-functionally interacts with the departments of Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Warehousing to ensure manufactured products are safe and are to quality expected by the customers. The QA supervisor manages the daily food safety and quality functions at the Bakkavor site, assuring compliance with food safety programs, internal/external quality standards and in alignment with our customer’s requirements , regulatory agencies (USDA, FDA, and Local Health Department) and Company’s strategy. The supervisor assists as necessary with plant level Food Safety Quality Assurance training of personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to:
- Champions at plant level the implementation and monitoring of internal/external quality and food safety systems.
- Observes strict product quality and food safety specifications, based on customer’s requirements and/or regulatory agencies, and takes the lead to work with other plant departments to enforce such specifications.
- Leads root cause analysis in the event out of specification environmental results.
- Supports cross-functional team to identify root cause of deviations and corrective/preventive actions.
- Manages customer/consumer feedback and develops cross-functional corrective/preventive actions and continuous improvement plans and validation.
- Works with quality management for the development, implementation and monitoring of company’s quality/food safety initiatives.
- Conducts ongoing product review/ documentation review to assure analytical, sensory and microbiological compliance to specifications.
- Supports and implements HACCP plans across the site, and supports the site HACCP team.
- Conduct internal audits as needed.
- Supports Technical Manager in the event of a Market Withdrawal or Recall teams and acts as member for Recovery/Crisis Management task force in the event of a crisis
- Maintains site EMP database, Supervises and coordinates FSQA staff to assure compliance to product (analytical, sensory, and microbiological) and environmental testing, reviews results with Technical Manager.
- Indirectly responsible for performance of staff to ensure product is safe and meets quality requirements set forth in the HACCP/Food Safety Plans and Specifications.
- Maintains working areas/environment safe and organized.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as requested.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
The quality supervisor will be a back up in Position works as backup person to cover for the absence of the FSQA Manager, Leads and/or Technicians.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related applicable field preferred
Five years food industry or equivalent experience
HACCP and PCQI Certification preferred

FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for oversight of their areas of responsibility of the plant’s Food Safety & Quality Management Systems. This position provides oversight and guidance to staff members to ensure the manufacturing of quality food and is responsible for identifying product that does not meet the food safety and quality requirements of the company, and preventing its distribution.
LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to communicate in English are required. Command of Spanish language is a plus but not required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to perform unit measures, conversion calculations and other mathematical calculations reasonably necessary to satisfactorily perform job duties. Basic math skills including fractions, percentage, and proportions. Basic statistics: understands the concepts of mean, standard deviation, range, accuracy, and precision
MENTAL AND REASONING ABILITY
Ability to properly manage workflow according with requirements and priorities using time management. Is required to individually evaluate materials, product and process deviation with high attention to detail and accuracy. The Quality Assurance function is demanding and requires high levels of concentration and the ability to handle multiple tasks according with company procedures. Sound character and good judgment are key to successful performance in this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.The employee is required to stand and walk for long periods of time in order to accomplish tasks. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee works in a variety of environments due to the variety of processes within the company. In certain areas the employee must use hearing protective devices and personal protective equipment. The employee may be required to be available for shift work, extended hours and days. The employee is regularly exposed to wet, humid, cold and/or hot conditions, including wet floors. The employee is required to work in an environment in which temperature ranges from sub-0° to 85° for prolonged amounts of time, as needed.
