PERINATAL AND NURSERY REGISTERED NURSE

DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services
SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing
STATUS: Non-Exempt

GENERAL:
In accordance with the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual and the requirements of our accrediting bodies, the employee will: support the mission "Partnering with our community for quality health and healing", the five core values "Ownership, Always better than yesterday, Service first, Integrity, and Stewardship of our resources (OASIS). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ability to perform assessments, care plans and ongoing care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and newborn patients
2. Ability to manage obstetric and newborn emergencies per policy, AWHONN, STABLE and NRP guidelines
3. Ability to assist with maternal and newborn procedures i.e. epidural placement, circumcision, etc.
4. Fetal heart monitoring documentation per policy and AWHONN guidelines
5. Ability to take a med-surg patient load and assist in other units when available

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
The Registered Nurse shall:
1. Current Wyoming Registered Nurse license in good standing
2. Previous experience working in a medical or health care facility preferred but not required
3. Must possess communication skills to relate to the public in person
4. Demonstrate good organizational abilities
5. Seeks proficiencies in computer applications, e.g. word processing, spread sheets, database, presentation, and project publication.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and is knowledgeable in metric, apothecary and household measurements and can convert from one system to another.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to modify care based on the developmental / functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient's ethnic background.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

BLS, ACLS (obtain ACLS within one year of hire
 Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring (within one month of hire)
 Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (within one year of hire)
 Advanced Fetal Monitoring (not required but recommended)
 NRP (within one month of hire)
 STABLE (within one year of hire)
 AWHONN POEP Modules (within 6 months of hire and every 2 years)
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors and co-workers. Ability to interact assertively and tactfully when dealing with conflict and in group solving activities. Ability to demonstrate a professional, open minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.
