Job Summary
Island Temporary Nursing, a premier senior care concierge service, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Care Facility Cook to join our team. We provide high-quality care to a diverse clientele, including English and Japanese-speaking residents. Our cook will play a vital role in preparing nutritious and appealing meals for our residents in an assisted living or skilled nursing facility. We offer a flexible work schedule with opportunities for full-time, part-time, and on-call positions across various shifts, 24/7.
Key Responsibilities
- Food Preparation: Prepare and cook a wide variety of menu items, including entrees, sides, and desserts, following established recipes to ensure consistent quality and taste.
- Dietary Needs: Provide meals for residents with special dietary requirements, such as low-sodium, low-fat, gluten-free, or diabetic-friendly meals, ensuring compliance with their care plans.
- Menu Planning: Collaborate with dietitians and healthcare staff to create diverse and nutritious menus that meet the preferences and dietary needs of the residents. Adjust menus seasonally or as required.
- Portion Control: Accurately portion foods according to recipes and dietary guidelines to ensure proper nutrition and minimize waste.
- Food Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to all food safety and sanitation regulations. Ensure that food is stored, prepared, and served in a safe manner.
- Meal Service: Coordinate and assist with the plating and distribution of meals, ensuring that they are served on time and at the correct temperature.
- Inventory Management: Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food supplies, ensuring proper rotation and minimizing waste. Maintain an inventory of kitchen supplies and ingredients.
- Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of food inventory, meal counts, dietary accommodations, and any incidents related to food safety.
- Training and Supervision: Provide guidance and training to kitchen staff and volunteers, ensuring that all team members adhere to proper food handling procedures.
- Communication: Work closely with healthcare providers and other staff to address any dietary concerns or special requests from residents and their families.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably in a healthcare or residential care setting. Knowledge of special dietary needs and menu planning is advantageous.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a certified culinary program or relevant training is preferred.
- Certification: Must possess or be willing to obtain a food handler’s certification or equivalent.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation practices. Ability to follow recipes accurately and produce high-quality meals. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required. Additional proficiency in Japanese is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and physical stamina.
Work Environment
- The position involves working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Exposure to kitchen equipment, such as ovens, stoves, and sharp utensils.
- Compliance with safety procedures is mandatory to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
