ERSG are currently seeking highly qualified Protected Species Observers (PSOs) certified by American regulatory agencies to deploy offshore during marine industry operations where there is potential for negative impacts on marine mammals and other protected marine life.
Objectives:
- To conduct observations to detect animals in the vicinity of operations.
- To advise on altering operations to avoid impacting protected species, primarily marine mammals.
- Record detailed observations of marine species behavior and activity.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports of all sightings and relevant environmental conditions.
- Liaise with vessel crew and project managers to convey real-time observation data and recommendations.
- Observation, reporting, and permitting services on projects.
- Stationing on oil rigs and drill ships on 4-6-week rotations in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
- Collection of other field and weather-related data.
- The position involves living and working on board ships or vessels for extended periods, with the possibility of not seeing land for up to 3 - 6 weeks per rotation.
- This offer does not include land-based positions or projects unrelated to marine observation and protection.
Requirements:
- Must complete PSO training and medical evaluation before project commencement.
- A degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Complete willingness and ability to be available for 3-6-week offshore project rotations.
