Full Job Description

The City of Creedmoor is currently seeking an experience Patrol Lieutenant. Creedmoor’s population consists of 5000 residents and is located approximately 20 miles North of Raleigh/RTP in Granville County, North Carolina. The Creedmoor Police Department consists of 18 full-time sworn law enforcement positions and 4 full-time telecommunicators and 5 part-time officers.

Job Position Details
The Patrol Lieutenant manages all patrol division activities within the city and with other law enforcement agencies. This position reports directly to the Chief of Police and assumes the Chief’s responsibilities in his absence. Presently the position oversees the Administrative Sergeant, 4 squads comprised of 2 sergeants, 4 to 5 officers, and part-time officers. The Patrol Lieutenant is responsible for general patrol operations, scheduling, training and fleet maintenance, along with other ancillary duties. The selected candidate must be able to use significant judgment, initiative, and management skills as well as strong knowledge of uniformed patrol operations to include but not limited to: crime prevention, community relations; crime detection/apprehension and the ability to provide organizational/programmatic and community analytical reports. This position assists with budget development, administration, setting departmental policy, goals, planning and assist with planning community events and performing special projects. Employee must exercise calm control at all times when performing duties and when responding to stressful and emergency situations.

This position performs a full range of general law enforcement duties. Selected candidate must know and uphold local, state, and federal laws; patrol assigned areas; respond to calls; perform investigations based on intuition and sound judgment; assist citizens in emergency and non-emergency circumstances; keep record of activities in a legible and succinct manner; testify in court; gather and record evidence; provide comprehensive verbal and written reports, interview suspects, witnesses, and victims; investigate domestic disputes, accidents, illegal drug activity, etc.; make arrests and/or transport to local facilities.

Other responsibilities may include, but not limited to: frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness and decisiveness; participating in the recruitment and hiring process for the department; and to perform duties in accordance with departmental policy and state and federal law.

Requirements Acurrent NC BLET Certification, a valid NC driver’s license with clean driving record, fifteen (15) years law enforcement experience and prior supervisory experience in the law enforcement field. Selected Candidates may be required to participate in an assessment board. Final Candidate(s)will be required to submit to a comprehensive background investigation, medical and drug screening and potentially a psychological consultation.

Preference
An Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field, and a minimum of (2) years’ supervisory experience in law enforcement work supplemented by specialized training in Community Policing, First Line Supervision, FTO, PLI or similar/equivalent courses, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The City prefers this position level to live within 25 miles of the City Limits.

Salary
Salary based on qualifications and experience; starting salary is expected to be in the range of $62,838-$76,304. The city offers a generous benefit package including 100% paid medical/dental/vision/life insurance, NC State Retirement, 5% NC 401(k) contribution with no match required, longevity pay, identify theft protection coverage, optional FSA plan, tuition reimbursement, and 12 vacation days, 12 sick days, and 12 paid holidays per year.
