Position Summary
Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Custodial Services Supervisor in the college's Custodial Services Department.
The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible to assist and supervise operations and personnel in the custodial care of campus facilities. The primary accountability for the Custodial Services Supervisor is to ensure that all facilities operate in a safe and efficient manner. Responsibilities include supervising full and part-time employees in cleaning and custodial services, determining cleaning needs of campus facilities, inventorying and ordering custodial supplies, scheduling deep cleaning, evaluating the performance of subordinates, and interviewing personnel being considered for employment. In addition, this position is responsible to assist the crew in daily cleaning duties to achieve maximum cleaning standards, provide safety training for assigned personnel, perform preventative maintenance and repairs to custodial equipment, while maintaining a follow-up program on accidents and safety prevention techniques. This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Capital Projects and works closely with the Building & Grounds Supervisor to meet the needs of the college.

Essential Job Duties
Primary essential responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Determine staffing needs for buildings; oversee activities in assigned area of responsibility. Regularly assign, instruct, and check the work of employees. Coordinate staffing and oversight of special cleaning projects.
- Assist with daily cleaning duties to ensure facilities operate in a safe and efficient manner.
- Evaluate the total work of employees against established standards. Inspect assigned areas to determine whether work has been properly performed. Counsel employees on performance; issue corrective action as needed.
- Train employees in new product and equipment use. Conduct regular department training on equipment, safety, and cleaning techniques.
- Work with the Human Resources Office to source qualified candidates. Interview applicants for job openings and make recommendations for selection.
- Coordinate set-ups and take-downs for special events both during the administrative workweek and on weekends. Document and approve staff hours associated with these events.
- Assist the Director in maintaining budget control for labor and materials. Prepare reports as requested.
- Evaluate, order, and maintain inventory of custodial supplies. Distribute equipment and supplies as needed. Meet with vendors to learn about new products. Test products and recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and machinery.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance and any small repairs to custodial equipment.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained in proper working order. Identify, report, and resolve maintenance problems.
- Report and act-upon building security, maintenance, and potential safety hazards.
- Support, manage, and explore new and existing green cleaning practices and initiatives.
- Enforce state, local, and department safety rules and regulations.
- Use MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Megamation software, and the college’s online timecard system in support of administrative functions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of safety data sheets, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
- Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
- Conduct self in a professional manner and ensure the interaction with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive to the college’s values.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be required.

- Follow established practices of using public funds and resources appropriately and follow all applicable state policies and procedures.
- Handle difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within college/legal guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, face-to-face, or over the radio.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience supervising or directing others in a large scale housekeeping, janitorial, general or building maintenance, or custodial work.
- Five years of experience in housekeeping, janitorial, general or building maintenance or custodial work.
- Physical ability to handle heavy equipment and materials weighing 35-50 pounds daily, 50-75 pounds occasionally, and over 75 pounds in some instances, where assistance may be required.
- Willingness and ability to perform work indoors or outdoors in all seasons, all types of weather and with high noise levels from tools and equipment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Possess a current valid Washington State driver’s license without pending risk of loss and current proof of insurance coverage.
- A demonstrated understanding of and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of both organization and the students we serve.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree in Business or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Knowledge of custodial chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Knowledge of positive and proactive customer service standards.
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency.
