SENIOR DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Position Overview
The Senior Director of Finance manages all financial functions including: the annual budget; accounting and auditing; financial operations including forecasting, strategic planning, analysis and reporting; grant administration including Lead Agency; and banking relations. Works directly with the CEO, Senior Team peers, and Boards of Directors, to establish financial strategic direction and subsequently monitor and maintain its progress.
Essential Job Functions
Leadership
- Establish and implement policies and procedures for all financial functions, ensuring appropriate controls and compliance with generally accepted accounting practices and Boys & Girls Clubs organizational requirements both local and national.
- Create and maintain a performance-based culture in the Finance Department of accountability, transparency, collaboration and customer service.

- In partnership with the CEO, act as a liaison to the Board of Directors and your assigned committee(s), helping the Board meet its responsibilities by advising, informing, and educating Directors.
Strategic Planning, Execution & Agility
- Develops an annual income and expense in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors that demonstrates high levels of accuracy, completeness, and utility.
- Reports on organizational financial results and recommendations for necessary actions to maintain and improve the fiscal health of the Club.
- Collaborates with Club leadership and supervisors to maintain, analyze, and interpret general ledger for all funds.
- Manages the preparation and analysis of financial reports on a monthly and as needed basis.
- Identifies and evaluates opportunities for improved financial operations, recordkeeping and reporting.
- In partnership with the CEO and the Board of Directors, contribute to the development of long-term, comprehensive strategic plans that substantially advance the organization’s mission and vision.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of strategic initiatives, making necessary adjustments to ensure successful execution.
- Demonstrate agility by adapting to changes in the internal and external environment and making timely decisions to keep the organization on track towards its goals.
Management
- Participates in the development of comprehensive, accurate and timely financial reports including but not limited to: monthly cash flow analyses, budget to actual variance analyses, financial trend analyses and recommended fiscal controls. Ensures compliance with all legal and accounting guidelines governing financial accounting and reporting.
- Responsible for fiscal functions including but not limited to: annual audits, tax returns, monthly management reports and year-end financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate completion and adherence to approved budget levels. Develops, implements and enforces policies, procedures and systems to improve the overall finance and accounting operation. Ensures the confidentiality of all information pertaining to BGCFV operations.
- As staff liaison, communicates, plan meetings and prepares paperwork for monthly Finance Committee meetings; biannual Board meetings and as needed.
- Ensure operational goals and objectives align with and advance the organization's strategic priorities.
- Regularly implement strategies to promote team development and performance, inclusive of but not limited to active listening, team performance assessments, coaching, team-based learning, recognition, fun, and transparent communications.
- Strive to meet and surpass the expectations of youth, families, staff, volunteers, Board, funders, and other key stakeholders.
- Support the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects.
- Ensure spending stays within budgeted amounts, get advance approval on expenditures as required, meet allowable cost requirements, and support the successful delivery of programs and services in alignment with all restricted funding sources’ expectations and requirements.
- Finish work by established deadlines within the framework of established guidelines and policies.
- Address issues and concerns in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
- Ensure records are up-to date, accurate, and organized. Prioritize and organize multiple tasks and responsibilities in a way that meets daily responsibilities while continuing to work toward longer-term objectives.
- Coordinate, facilitate, and support the ongoing review of policies and procedures, recommending changes and additions when appropriate.
Resource Development
- Prepares the annual request for United Way funds .
- Preparation of grant budgets and related financial progress reports.
- Manages all assets and investments of the Boys & Girls Club, including real property, equities, bonds and other assets.
- Train staff to understand how their actions and contributions to quality work and to maximation of resources enhance the organization’s fundraising efforts and its overall financial health.
- Participate in organizational fundraising efforts, including donor stewardship activities, Board engagement opportunities, third-party events, and special events.
Safety and Risk Management
- Ensure safety practices meet or exceed the membership requirements of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the legal requirements of the federal, state, and local governments, and contractual requirements as may exist, for example, with school districts or lessors.
- Support the development and implementation of new or amended new or amended policies, practices, and processes that further mitigate and minimize safety risks.
- Support implementation of comprehensive measures to control and minimize risks in all aspect of safety such as ongoing safety assessments, behavior management systems, facility inspections and compliance tests, incident response planning and implementation, training, and measurement.
Human Resources, Supervision, and Talent Development
- Trains staff in proper procedures regarding cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and budgeting as needed or requested
- Attends meetings of the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and Personnel Committee in an advisory role, as requested.
- Assist Department Leaders in the budget preparation and management.
- Drive and support efforts that help ensure the organization has an acceptable number of qualified staff and effective leadership and management structures to operate effectively and deliver programs.
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellence and guide your team to do so as well, aligning efforts with the organization’s values, mission, strategic priorities, and policies.
- Ensure workplace operations comply with all relevant regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Provide active supervision of all direct reports, inclusive of ongoing coaching, regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, goal setting, and talent development.
- Participate in available coaching opportunities, regular one-on-one meetings with supervisor, performance evaluations, and goal setting.
- Model a commitment to learning and development by following talent development requirements, ensuring your team does the same, and creating and following a professional development plan.
- Create and manage succession plans for key roles in your area of responsibility.
- Ensure that workplace operations elevate equity and trauma-informed practices that promote a positive, inclusive, and safe work environment in accordance with all relevant regulations, organizational policy, and industry best practices.

Qualifications
The Senior Director of Finance requires a majority combination of the following:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration.
- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience managing the accounting functions in a non-profit agency, or equivalent experience.
- Thorough knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices, processes and procedures of non-profit organizations.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
